Storm Team 9: Stormy Pattern to Ease for Holiday Weekend

Gannon Medwick

Hi, I’m Storm Team 9 Meteorologist Gannon Medwick with your STORM TEAM 9 FORECAST FOR EASTERN NORTH CAROLINAIn the coming days, a high pressure system in the upper atmosphere will gradually replace a low pressure system in the upper atmosphere.  In sensible weather-terms, expect a trend of decreasing daily rain chances and increasing daily high temperatures as we head into the holiday weekend.

THURSDAY FORECAST DETAILS:  Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies, still-high humidity levels, afternoon high temperatures mainly in the mid 80s, and a continued risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms – especially in the afternoon.  As has been the case over recent days, most thunderstorms will produce the generic hazards of downpours and lightning, but a few storms could drop some hail and gusty winds.

EXTENDED FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS:  The chance of a pop-up shower or storm will fall to near 20 or 30% Friday and to near 10 or 20% for the Memorial Day Weekend days.  Also expect summery temperatures for the unofficial start to summer with afternoon highs in the mid 80s likely for most areas Friday and upper 80s for most areas Saturday through Memorial Day (expect low 80s beaches).  Nighttime lows will be in the 60s for the period.
